As a Hillary fan, I'm insulted that McCain would think this woman would move me and other like me to vote for him. She's no Hillary, that's for sure. More like Dan Quail with a pony tail.

Wow---What a clever move on McCain's part---------Is this the Partridge Family all over again? Gene-o says that the time is ripe for you to write book on "Chasing Hillary"-----------Jackie-o

I am proud of McCain for making this pick. Obama should be red-faced today I would not be surprised to see Hillary snickering. Obama would have walked away with this election if he chose HRC. Who would have thought the Democrats are the party of sexism? I'm voting for McCain/Palin. Palin is a mother of 5, she knows how to run things.

I am a life-long Democrat who has never voted Republican. This lady definitely has my attention because of her feistiness and her ability to stand up for the principles that got her into office.

She is NOT just a pretty face, in fact, she has pushed for some very moderate (and old-style Democratic reforms in her state):

Yes, a very smart pick on McCain's part. I for one am intrigued. If Obama had chosen Hillary this wouldn't have the impact that it does.
Now it seems the race is really on...

Hooray for Sarah the populist! I wish the election was today so I could vote for her already! Smash those big oil companies, Sarah!

Just be wary, they'll start to smear you before you can blink.

Popcorn anyone? This is really getting good!

Keith and Laurie think she's kinda groovy,
but for me the jury is still out!

Obama, you should have picked Hillary!

I bet you regret calling that woman reporter "sweetie", too. Obama let his sexist attitude show through there.

Don't forget she is very pro life and anti Gay!

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know where I can find the quote from Hillary about SP?

Palin did sign a domestic partnership or some deal for gay couples in Alaska. And it's quoted somewhere that she thinks government should stay out of the abortion debate.

I don't think either (McCain/Palin) is ideologically driven to overturn Roe v Wade. But this is a belief only.

Another belief is that I don't think Obama is ideologically driven to preserve Roe v Wade.

Hillary is one of the few senators that will consistently push for the preservation of individual rights, all of them. That makes her much sexier to me.

I have to say Hillary is hotter. That's my final analysis.

Looks like a play out of the Karl Rove handbook. Are the women of America really going to fall for this crap?

Scares the shit outta me.

It is a play out of the Karl Rove Handbook, an obvious one. But I blame Obama. He should have picked Hillary. He should have asked for her votes in a demonstrative and concrete way. But team Obama was convinced he didn't need them, or that Clinton Dems would just fall in line behind an unformed leader who fails to inspire them. This is about his judgement, something Obama is always asking us to trust. I don't trust it. He chose not to unify the party. He chose not to reach out and get all Dems under one big tent. He chose not to ask me for my vote. He has never asked me for my vote. That's stupid politics. That's an amateur or an arrogant jerk. Whichever it is, it doesn't matter because his judgement, his choices put us in this position in the first place. Yes, the Right has "one-upped" the Left once again.

I'm sort of scared too. But the reality is, had McCain chosen Romney I would have dropped out in terms of participation. The message that none of this need concern me, a 43 year old woman, would be clear from both sides. I've spent a lot of time soaking up the misogyny of the so-called progressive guys and gals that support Obama as part of my "field" work. And after being told to "Shut the fuck up" enough times, well, I have to admit I loved McCain's play "I understand, I want your vote, here is my chick."

I see the manipulation. But I also admire the "smartness" of his move. I like smart politicians. It's a chess match and I admire the winner.

I also remember that in 2000 McCain ran against the Evangelical wing of his party and was slaughtered and that in 2004 his name was floated as a possible running mate of John Kerry. Recently McCain pissed off his base with his Immigration Reform Bill, which his Republican colleagues shot down because it gave a path to amnesty for immigrants living here illegally. Both Hillary and Obama voted "Yay" on his bill.

I don't think he is a "maverick" and I know he can pander to the far right like there is no tomorrow. But he does remind me of Bush Sr., who gave us Judge Souter, on the first opportunity he could, and what was believed at the time to be his only shot at appointing a Supreme Court Justice. Clarence Thomas was appointed to fill an unexpected vacancy occurring later in the term, when Bush Sr was running for a second term and in need of the Evangelical vote.

McCain has a lot of baggage. There is a long record to sift through to form a political profile. I find this comforting. There is no baggage to go through with Obama and maybe this is the reason that some people can project their most sublime aspirations and ideals onto him. For me, I panic at the idea of him as president.

I've watched so many students fail miserably after reassuring me that they understand. They're all men, of course. And they refused my help. To me this is Obama. He's a novice and he doesn't need the help of Hillary and, I believe, he will fail without it.

I do not think Hillary is an innocent victim here. I think she is complicit in that she probably didn't want to be his VP and didn't want a close roll call vote, which could have made her a viable choice. She appeared very relieved during her "acclamation moment". I got upset watching her and the NY delegation put a smile on a process that was clearly rigged.

O.K. kids, even though Sarah is kind of fun and cute and groovy. Let's examine a few fun-facts about her:
She Opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest. ( ick!)
She supports the teaching of creationism in public schools. ( snooozze!)
She strongly supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and does not believe that climate change and global warming are man-made ( Hellooo?)
She Opposed Bush Administration’s listing of polar bears as an endangered species because that would hurt drilling for oil in their habitat. ( Booo!)

Anonymous said...

Well you ought to be determined to see her elected. If she is it will only make it easier for Hillary to win in 2012 because the public will see and accept that a woman CAN be in the #1 or 2 spot.

Shirley Partridge said...

Ya, but who will care for the baby polar bears?
It reminds me of my favorite song from my Partridge Family days... called Whale song

anti gay....is that popular?

Paintress Gretchen said...

I didn't think so.

Unknown said...

yes, she is anti-gay enough to grant State benefits to gay couples but try to make it look like she really didn't want to. it's sort of interesting...

Anonymous said...

The Alaskan Supreme Court mandated the change. She was NOT for granting benefits, in fact she fought it.

Anonymous said...

From Sarah Furguson's link:

Palin complied with an Alaskan state Supreme Court order and signed them into law. She disagreed with the Supreme Court ruling and supported a democratic advisory vote from the public on whether there should be a constitutional amendment on the matter. Alaska was one of the first U.S. states to pass a constitutional ban on gay marriage, in 1998, along with Hawaii. Palin has stated that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment.

Sheesh, did you even read it???

Unknown said...

Continuing with the article, where anonymous left off

"Palin's first veto was used to *block* legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to the partners of gay state employees. In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples. The veto occurred after Palin consulted with Alaska's attorney general on the constitutionality of the legislation."

Anonymous said...

You continue to make my point.

Anonymous said...

If McCain scared me before, he now terrifies me choosing Palin. His knee jerk and irresponsible actions further demonstrates how unfit he is to run this country....especially during these difficult times.

Shame on him!

Imagine, someone his age with his health issues choosing someone he has met only once and who, when chosen, turns and asks: "What does a Vice President do?"

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't joining McCain mean that this woman, despite any good she has done, has decided to put that aside to be on this man's ticket?" She has sworn a blood oath to the neocons, Wall Street, and the military industrial-complex, to be Vice Sauron in Mordor.

Anonymous said...

to clarify...She VETOED a plan that would have PREVENTED the extension of benefits to partners of gay state employees.
