After making everyone pose for photo Ops with Maxine's "Closet sale" album,I decided to do a little research. Here's what I found out.
Maxine Feldman ( 1944-2007), is considered to be a lesbian trail blazer. She is best known for busting out with what is considered to be the first openly lesbian song, "Angry Atthis" ( 1969), just one month before the Stonewall riots.
Maxine had a lengthy career in the Boston coffee house circuit, though she never exactly struck it rich. She is described by those who knew her as a person who was alternately sensitive and gentle or loud, proud, very funny and "very Jewish."
In 1974 Maxine performed with Yoko Ono, boy I wish I could youtube that one!
For health reasons Maxine had to move to New Mexico. Here s/he became Max, though he didn't go through the operation. His later years mainly centered around his health issues. Max died August 17, 2007.
Now we can all name-drop Maxine (or Max) Feldman with confidence!
